Raw
material - Products made by BALIZ Woof Woof contain 100% organic vegetables. The livestock is raised on organic foods (produced without conventional pesticides or synthetic fertilisers). Animals are not fed growth promoters/hormones, steroids or antibiotics, or food containing genetically modified ingredients. No eggs are used in the products. Meat products (BALIZ Woof Woof label) are sourced from 100% certified organic ingredients. Fish products such as the spear fish are caught in North Queensland and are not farmed. Fresh vegetables and meat are sourced from certified organic wholesalers in Australia only. |
Manufacturing – The raw material producers are selected for their organic credentials/certifications to minimise the environmental impacts of the food growth and manufacturing process. The foods are minimally processed without the use of additives, chemicals, preservatives, flavours or fillers. Dried products such as the kangaroo tendons have been dried without the use use nitrates or preservatives (and no chemical drying is involved). The abattoirs are managed to a high standard and animal welfare is the highest priority. Strict standards are adhered to in order to minimise any stresses relating to the transport, handling and slaughter of animals. BALIZ food products are produced at a number of facilities, all of which also process food for human consumption. The environmental credentials vary depending on the processing plant used. Yarrah foods are produced in the Netherlands in facilities which use Green Power. |
Distribution
– The organic vegetables and meat are produced in Australia, and are sourced predominantly from within NSW. Raw materials are sourced from other States on occasion depending on seasonal availability. The majority of the abattoirs and manufacturing facilities used are located within NSW. However, other facilities may be used depending on where the livestock is sourced from when outside NSW. From the point of manufacture the products are sent to the BALIZ Woof Woof facilities in NSW via refrigerated vehicles and distributed to retail outlets by road from there. |
Product use – The life of the fresh meat and vegetables can be extended by freezing. The dried foods are preserved as a result of the drying process and therefore have a longer shelf life. Although the products come from 'human grade quality' ingredients, these product are only intended for pet food consumption. |
Waste
management - The cans from the Yarrah range of canned food products are recyclable. The fresh food and treats are packaged in plastic vacuum bags to increase shelf life (not recyclable). However, the packaging volume has been minimised and only one layer of packaging is used. To minimise waste further you can take along reusable shopping bags when you go shopping. The plastic for the liquids, such as the shampoos, is recyclable, where facilities exist. BALIZ Woof Woof endeavours to reduce its impact on the environment by recycling their styro-foam and paper boxes where possible (and where practical customers can return their boxes). Opportunities or increasing te use of recycled plastic (and the inclusion of environmentally friendly packaging materials) is high on BALIZ's list of priorities. Currently there are no viable alternatives for packaging suitable for vacuum packaging/freezing. The use of more eco-friendly packaging is being considered and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis |
